Olympic Fever - Let the Games Begin!

It’s hard to believe that the opening ceremony for the 2008 Olympics is finally here (well almost)! We are huge fans of the Olympic games especially since Athens. I can still hear the music from the Athens games in my head. Believe it or not we still have the recording of Paul Hamm winning the gold medal in the men’s gymnastic all around competition. The look on his face when he realized he had won was classic!

I am bummed that his recent injury will not allow him to compete. At least his brother Morgan Hamm will be there! (Update - Just learned that Morgan is out as well)! That's too bad !

We got hooked on watching the Olympics after we got our PVR system. It changed the way we watch TV. We rarely watch anything live anymore. PVR basically records your selected shows to a hard drive – you can pause live TV, skip all the commercials, and basically watch an entire show in much less time. I highly recommend it!

It looks like China has done an impressive job with the venues in Beijing that will be used for the games. Here are a few of my favorites!

The National Stadium

The National Aquatics Center

The National Indoor Stadium

There are several sports that we follow and a few athletes in particular. Here they are in no particular order.

Men’s Gymnastics
Men’s Swimming
Men’s Diving
Men’s Marathon
Men’s Track and Field

The athletes that we are following in these games include:

Alexandre Despatie – Canadian Diver

Matthew Mitcham – Australian Diver(who just came out)!

Michael Phllps – US Swimmer

Ryan Hall – US Marathoner

Morgan Hamm – US Men’s Gymnastics
(Just found out he's out due to injury)!

Jonathon Horton - US Men’s Gymnastics

I hope you enjoy the games as much as we do! I can hardly wait for the 2010 winter games, especially since they will be right here in our own back yard of Vancouver BC. Then 2012 for the summer games in London!

Later - Jim

  2. Hmmm...I bet you are "following" the male athletes. BTW...my favorite self portrait is of you and Kent at the Husky game. At least I think that's from the Husky game, or maybe it was from Grape Fest '08. IKM!
