San Francisco Weekend

It's early Monday morning and I am on the train from the rental car drop off at SFO to catch our flight back to Seattle. As you can see it's pretty quite out! Kent always makes sure we always have plenty of time to get to the airport - most often at the expense of my ability to sleep a little longer!

We just spent the weekend in the bay area with our friend Bill to go to the Husky game at Stanford. Bill's a lot of fun and easy to travel with and we have similar interests so we always have a great time. It's been a number of years ago but we've been to a game at Stanford before and had a great time. The Stanford campus is beautiful and the weather was perfect the entire weekend!

The Huskies played very poor but despite the loss we had a great time.

We rented a condo for the weekend in the Castro neighborhood which turned out great! It was a great location and nice place to stay. It was fun staying in a neighborhood. The condo was very nice and had a great view. I would definitely recommend it to anyone kinda tired of hotels and it works especially nice when traveling with others. We are doing the same thing when we travel to New York in December.

As usual we packed in a lot in a few days! It started with dinner on Friday night with a friend of Bill's at an Italian place in the Castro. It was fun having dinner with a local.

Following dinner we walked around Castro before heading back to the condo. The picture of Bill and Kent was taken in the new HRC store which is in the former location of the camera store owned by Harvey Milk.

Saturday morning we went to one of our favorite farmers markets on the west coast on the San Francisco waterfront.

Back up to Castro to pick up some toys for the dogs and a little shopping. Love the shirt - "Dogs are the new children." Lol!

After the game we went to dinner in downtown SF at a mexican restaurant where the staff, bartenders and patrons were all a lot of fun. There may have been a tequila shot or two in there to drown our sorrows after the humiliation of the Stanford game.

Sunday Kent and I both got up early enough to go out for a nice run. I've ran in SF before but never in Golden Gate Park. I managed to cover 8 miles.

Went to Mission Park and spotted a group of what appeared to be models practicing their runway walk.

From here we went out across the Golden Gate Bridge to Muir Woods National Monument and what will forever become known as the "death march" - Kent was being dramatic! Muir Woods was beautiful and although all three of us have been to SF many times, this was our first visit to Muir Woods. As an added bonus we got to be with Bill when he purchased his lifetime senior National Park Pass - yet another reason to travel with him!

Back to city for a final few pictures, dinner and drinks at Zuni Cafe and then an early evening so we could get a good nights sleep.

Hopefully the Dawgs play better against Arizona next weekend. Already planning my next trip - leave next Sunday for a week long meeting in DC. Going right from the airport to work while Kent goes to pick up the dogs. Can't wait to get home tonight to see them.

Later - Jim
