Game Day! UW vs. BYU

It's a home game today at Husky Stadium! 12 p.m. kickoff - UW vs. #15 BYU. Husky stadium is a great place to play football! Our season tickets in the picture above are located to the left of the scoreboard in the upper deck towards the water. Should be a nice warm day for football and our seats while under cover are in the sun at this time of year! Another game we will be watching today - WSU plays Cal - Go Bears! On to the game.....

After the ass kicking we got last week in Oregon it is hard to rationally pick the Huskies to beat BYU not to mention leave for the game with enthusiasm - but here we go!

Wilingham's butt is firmly planted on that hot seat, everyone has been talking about this week's game and how it becomes the biggest of his career. It’s going to be a tough day as BYU comes in winning 11 straight games.

"I'm so excited! I really think we are going to pull off a win today!"

Come on Ty - put a little enthusiasm in it! If the Huskies lose this week, the likelihood of a 0-3 start will be staring them in the face with Oklahoma coming to town next weekend. Beating BYU won't be easy but BYU has never won in Husky Stadium It’s a must win for the Dawgs! If the Dawgs win today it also gives them a chance to be 2-2 in November with a win over Standford.

Funny Childhood Memories

Okay this is a test to family members to see how many are reading this blog and to test a memory that I have.

The other day my friend Jennifer started telling me a hilarious story about a friend who bought up having a pet monkey as a kid. I was laughing hysterically when all the sudden - out of no where I said - "we had a pet monkey growing up"?



I laugh just writing that! Who has a pet monkey!? Where does one get a pet monkey? As she was telling me this storey I had a memory of our dad some how bringing home a monkey (probably won it in a poker game) that was mean! Somehow I even believe that when the monkey died it was buried in baby clothes in our back yard.

Did I make this up or did we actually have a monkey? If we did have a monkey - I'd love to know more about how this at came about.

I know after reading - The Art of Racing in the Rain and Marley and Me, I had a flood of memories of the various dogs we had growing up. Lets see there was King (German Shepard) - Metchie (Poodle) - Bones (Irish Setter) - Bernard (Saint Bernard) - Fanny (Great Dane) - Chaunga (Chihuahua) -Sugar ( Cocker Spaniel) Mushkia (Siberian Husky) .

Did I miss any? And more importantly - did we have a pet monkey?

Our Friend Megan

Well perhaps it's a bit misleading to call her our friend - but a few years ago - Kent and I had opportunity to spend the evening with Megan Mullally and a few of our friends when she was in town for a concert. It was a great evening of fun and laughter! Send me pictures of your brush with fame and I'll post them.



I've not had the opportunity to talk about my obsession with Lucille Ball and my Lucy collection - I'll save it for another post. But it used to be that when I'm at home just hanging out and wanted a TV show playing in the background (we have a TV in every room of our house - yet another post) - I'd put on an old episode of - I Love Lucy. While I still love Lucy - now I frequently put on old episodes of Will and Grace. Some of them are so funny! I especially love the episodes with Beverly Leslie!

Karen to Beverly Leslie - "Well, well well Beverly Leslie, what are you doing later tonight honey? I'm having a few friends over for a game of Monopoly, and I'm missing one of the pieces. Hilarious!

This and that........

I received an anonymous post letting me know that UCLA had made it in the top 25 in both the AP poll and the coaches poll. I am working on getting the polls on the site as well as the PAC-10 schedule. They are large and I need to work on fitting them in the right or left columns. Keep checking back!

When I logged off last night Tennessee was ahead by 7 over UCLA. What a difference a quarter can make! UCLA ended up winning in a nail bitter in OT, 24-27. It was a great game.

Enough of football until Saturday when we play 15th ranked BYU. Maintaining optimism - Go Dawgs!

I've been asked a lot about what I think about McCain's choice of a running mate - Sarah Palin All I needed to know to help me quickly form my opinion was that Rush Limbaugh has been suggesting her as a running mate. I've done some research and have come up with the following reasons that she was a poor choice.


1 - She has no foreign policy experience - None.

2 - She is a creationist, and she wants "creation science" to be taught in public schools.

3 - She doesn't believe in man-made global warming. Maybe that's why she supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge?

4 - Not only does she think the government should be telling people who they can and cannot marry, she also thinks that same sex couples should be denied benefits given to straight couples.

5- Palin has been accused of abusing her power as Alaska governor to try to get her ex-brother-in-law fired as a state trooper. An investigation is underway and she has hired a private attorney.

6 - She doesn't want the polar bear to make it onto the endangered species list.

7 - Anti-birth control- Not only does Palin oppose abortion in all cases, she also opposes the use of birth control in all cases. That includes married couples that want to use condoms or the pill!

I could go on and on about the bits of information that I found. There was been much said in the last day about her personal life. I could care less that her teenage daughter is pregnant, that she was in a beauty pageant, that her husband had a DUI, she smoked pot, etc. I am concerned about her public policy and ethics.

I do think that choosing her shows very poor judgment on McCain's part - in a desperate attempt to get the female vote, he picks a woman with a resume thinner than Obama's (after telling us Obama had no experience!)

I love what Richard Roeper had to say about her - (and I thought he just reviewed movies!)

"In other and more-telling respects, Palin sounds like Ted Nugent with a uterus. She's a "hockey mom" and a crack shot, she ice-fishes, and her manly-man husband is a four-time Iron Dog snowmobile race champion. She's a member of the NRA, she's "as pro-life as any candidate can be," she's no friend to the environment, and she opposes same-sex marriage.
And it's said she enjoys a good mooseburger from time to time."

The Mooseburger

1 lg Sesame seed bun

1 Lettuce leaf

1 Thick tomato slice

1 Thick onion slice

1/4 sl Dill pickle

6 Ounces of ground moose made into patty

2 Ounces of ground pork
Mix moose meat with 2 oz of ground pork.

Broil patty to taste.

Place on 1/2 of toasted sesame seed bun. Add onion, pickle, tomato, and lettuce, and top with favorite sauce. Serves 1.
Mix with onion soup mix (1 packet per pound of meat) for more flavor.

Hilarious! There's a website out there for everything!

Regardless of the outcome of the election it will be historical nonetheless.

Bye, Bye Tyrone!

Okay- I’ve put it off as long as I can. Talking about the Husky embarrassing loss against the Ducks!

Because I can I am going to put of talking about it a bit more! It’s been a football weekend! As I am writing this we are watching the final game of Labor Day weekend - UCLA at the Rose Bowl against Tennessee. I can’t help but hope Tennessee pulls it off given Rick Neuheisel history at Washington.

Is it time for Willingham to go? I have to say - yes! I have been on the fence really wanting Willingham to be successful. But after the embarrassing loss to Oregon – it’s time for a change. We’ve been season ticket holders for the past four years and have held in there but it’s time for the Huskies to get it together. The one positive thing about the loss in Oregon is that it united a divided front as to whether Tyrone should be fired or not - the vote is in and it’s time for a change. (I admit, I will be singing a different tune if the Huskies win against BYU)

We went to Eugene with so much hope that we would be different this year, only to have our hopes dashed in the second half of the game.

Unless there are some serious changes we will be lucky to win four games – I hope I am wrong!

(UCLA just scored the first touchdown against Tennessee)

There will be plenty of time to talk about the Huskies – we had a great time nonetheless going to Eugene for the games. We went with our friend Bill who we have season tickets for Basketball with.

Football - he joins us for the away games. We had heard so much about the fans being mean - that we were not sure what to expect. Most everyone was really nice.

The stadium was really cool! Recently remodeled - there were a lot of Washington fans that made the drive down.

Next weekend we play BYU - we really need to win this game! I have to remain hopeful – I can see the headline now – "Huge Husky Upset!"
Enough about football – this week look for my comments about the Grandma (oops!) from Alaska who was named the Republican Vice President nomination. I’ve got a lot to say about her! She may be hot as described by an anonymous post to my blog (she reminds me of the chick who takes off her glasses and let’s her hair down and becomes a totally hot.

Fall gardening is also here! Fall bulbs are in stores now! But wait and let me blog about them before you go out and buy. We have lots of time and you will save money if you wait.
