UW vs. LSU

We had a great time at the pre-game function. We met up with our friends Andrew and Heidi and Chuck and Carla. We met Andrew and Heidi in San Antonio last year and sit next to Chuck and Carla at Basketball. We also met a new couple that live on Queen Ann - John and John. Nice to meet another gay couple with season tickets!

Before we went to the game we went for a run around campus. The LSU fans were real nice and really into their tailgating!

We are currently in the third quarter and the score is 34-3. Dawgs are not playing so well but as with many of the away games we have attended and lost - it's a ton of fun.

Carla and Chuck live in Montlake and Heidi and Andrew live in Ravenna. I see progressive tailgating parties in our future!

Laurelhurst

It's of course obvious that I've not been posting with any frequency. All my extra time has been taken with the big move to our new house. We spent the first night there a week ago yesterday. Last Saturday we moved the majority of our belongings in a 36 ft. long u-Haul. It took two trips - one for household goods and the other for plants! Although we managed - I'm fairly certain it will be the last time we move ourselves. Definitely getting too old for all the heavy lifting!

There is still much to be done around the house. This week we had electrical work done as the house is old and needed wiring to accommodate the computer and a new furnace and heat pump. The old oil furnace is on the way out! The dish for the satellite went up on Friday so we have the comforts of all favorite TV as well. The big chore for the day was getting the washer and dryer down into the basement. Let me tell you that was no small feat! Now aside from putting stuff away, organizing and waiting for the kitchen remodel to start we are getting settled.

The dogs are adjusting well to their new digs. I feel bad for them right now since we have yet to put in their doggie door and a fence so they can come and go. At this time they are relegated to kennels during the day until such time we get their area all in order. They do love all the dogs in the neighborhood. It's definitely a dog loving neighborhood. Dog after dog walks by all day long. There are great parks and trails nearby for taking them for walks which they love of course.

I love our new neighborhood. It's got some of the best running opportunities in the city. I have gone on three runs all in different areas and I've not even ran on the Burke Gillman Trail that is four blocks from the house. Our proximity to the UW and U-Village make it feel like we have moved to the center of the universe. There is a ton of stuff to do within blocks of the house. Today for example we walked over to U- Village for lunch and shopping and then after talking the dogs for a walk we walked over to the soccer field at UW and watched the Dawgs play Oregon State.

It was a beautiful day for soccer. It's actually been a beautiful fall. It's really dry out and although I love the weather, it would be nice for a little rain.

Last night we went up to the U-District for a movie. It's nice that it's about a mile from the house. Friday evening we tried one of the new restaurants in the area. There are a lot to choose from. I think we are going to love living in the city!

Laurelhurst - Our New Neighborhood!

Below is an arial view of our new neighborhood with the walking directions from our house to Husky Stadium! There has been so much that has occurred in the last couple weeks it's been hard to stay in top of blogging.

Here is a copy of our new house on Redfin right after our offer was accepted and went pending.

So not only did we buy a new house we put our house on the market and it went pending in 2 weeks! We are very pleased. We were prepared for it to be on the market for three months.

We closed on our new house yesterday and moved our first few loads of stuff there last night.

Kent as we went to pick up the key to our new house!

I'm writing this as we drive from Houston to Baton Rouge to watch the Dawgs play against LSU. More to follow.

Major Transition

This is a draft of a post that I wrote several weeks ago that I never posted. So much has occurred since then.

You know Kent and I lived in our current house that we love for 13 years! Longer than I have ever lived in one place in my entire life. Long enough to totally update it, paint it twice, see trees grow from 8 to 30 feet, see all but one neighbor on our street come and go and most time enough to pay it off! It's bitter sweet to think of leaving it. If we could we would take our home and place it in a new neighborhood. There are two reason behind our decision to relocate to the city. One - although we love our house we are not as fond of the neighborhood. We have totally awesome neighbors on all sides of us. The kind that lookout for one another and check in on each others places, take in garbage cans for each other and still give each other space. The overall area has gone downhill over the years. We have an abandoned house down the street and several rentals in which the yards are not well tended. That's not the main reason however. The bigger thing is that we wanted a lifestyle change. We spend all our time in Seattle socializing, I work downtown and finally and most important we have season tickets for both basketball and football and spend a ton of time at the UW. Our new place is literally a 13 min walk to the stadium.

We have a ton of things to do over the next several weeks. We had planned on taking a few days next week and going for a short driving trip. Instead we will take the time to get our house ready to go on the market next week. It's all the sudden happening so fast! Our realtor is coming over tonight to help us stage the house and give us ideas on all the things we need to do to get the house ready for market. Thankfully we have been doing things all along. It's going to be a busy next couple months!

The inspection of the new house is scheduled for Monday. We are not planing on there being any major issues but we have a list of things we already know we want to update. The first being putting up a fence for the dogs. We also want to convert the furnace from oil to gas. The kitchen is nice and big - it's clean but it needs updating. Not sure if we will do that right away or wait
